Grand Touring

The second level of cars in the Grand American Rolex Series are those of the Prep1 and Prep2 Grand Touring (GT) classification.

Prep1 are those cars built from the original factory body and chassis with allowable modifications as defined in the GT Rules.  The link will take you to the current GT rules that begins with a list of cars eligible and their preparation limits followed by detailed descriptions of all allowable modifications.

Sabre concentrates its efforts on the Prep2 cars eligible as the chassis are typically custom built tube frame design.  The constraints of the Prep2 bodywork is that it may not deviate from the exterior surface size and shape of the original factory bodywork but can be reproduced entirely of composites such as fiberglass, Kevlar or carbon fiber.  The only modifications allowed to the body shape is the addition of a front splitter to the stock front valance, a "spec" rear mounted wing and wheel lips to bring the car to the maximum 74" width.

As there are two types of preparation for GT, Prep2 has two distinctive styles of chassis configuration available.  The first to enter competition were the typical solid rear axle types in which the transmission is mounted to the bellhousing behind the typical front mounted engine.  The second to appear as of late are the transaxle, independent rear suspension type.  Sabre has designs for both to suit the needs of the customer in addition to being able to convert one type to the other as those needs change.
